Being on Substack has really broadened my internet horizons, let me tell you. Before now, I had never made an acquaintance or friend on the world wide web. Now, I feel like I’m meeting all kinds of people and learning so much more about the film community.
Honestly, I would have never expected that to have been a benefit when I started this thing, but I guess even I have to let my inner Gen Z out every once in awhile.
Kristen Tepper
I had been subscribed to Kristen Tepper’s Substack -
- for some time and had enjoyed it immensely, when I suddenly had a need to reach out. I was launching the Inspired Screenwriting Competition and I had to start talking to strangers. After DMing Kristen and assuming I would not hear back, instead I promptly got a message saying she’d be happy to help in any way she could.
And this is what has been amazing about this film community on here. There’s a real sense of camaraderie, a strong willingness to help each other out. It’s something I’ve craved in this business for a long time, especially as a writer. We need to talk to each other.
Anyway, I can’t say I was surprised when Kristen agreed to talk to me for a post for my Substack, because her whole thing is about supporting people.
I especially wanted to talk to her because she is climbing a ladder I don’t know much about: TV writing. Seeing as how it seems like more people want to write TV than film these days, I thought it would be really helpful to hear her story and learn from her experience.
So, here we are! Enjoy the conversation, get the helpful tips (I was so curious about TV bibles), and subscribe to her Substack!
