…”horribly under-used Robert Vaughn as a senator, the mayor and his wife…” I first read this as: he played a senator & the mayor & his wife… thinking, sounds more over-used than under… 😂

I loved Disaster movies of that era. Like Love Boat/Fantasy Island, but the stars get to die in horrible ways.

They should have done a Love Boat/Fantasy Island crossover event with like Poseidon Adventure or something

That would be awesome, I can already see Isaac standing on the roof of the bar, still serving drinks.

Irwin Allen was the "Master of Disaster" whose specialty was star-studded, over-the-top spectacles like The Towering Inferno, Earthquake, and The Poseidon Adventure. In fact, The Towering Inferno and Earthquake both came out in 1974. All of them are good fun, and all of them gave me the shivers when I first saw them as a kid. "Well, maybe the COULD actually happen..." 😨

this one is my favorite of those movies - I think because it moves pretty fast. the other ones tend have long slow sappy parts, and this one is just unrelenting.

These cast-of-thousands disaster flicks were all the rage in the '70s, and I saw almost all of them - in Sensurround!

But Earthquake was a Monty Python 20th-Century Vole production. A white-guy-fake-fro'd Marjoe Gortner with a chip on his shoulder, Chuck Heston and his mag-finished proto-SUV with the car phone, a pre-Dallas, afro'd Vicki Principal and her t-shirted boobs, George Kennedy essentially playing his Patroni archetype as a cop, and a polyestered, hip-hugged Wally Matthau as a barfly, was just too silly to take seriously.

Awesome film ....The Poseidon Adventure is equally entertaining - If a disaster movie can be 🤔

Disaster movies are entertaining! I think because they tend to be a lot of nonstop action and surprise complications. So fun.

As a young lad loved seeing the pantless, bobbed, blonde - who's suddenly flambe'd!

jen harrington's avatar

but… wouldn’t the first thing you would do in this situation is… PUT ON YOUR PANTS?! like, minimize the surface area of skin exposed directly to fire? it makes me crazy ha
